I support the church’s current affirmation of the biblical pattern of chastity and marriage; I have been involved with the development of the Alliance; my background is in involvement with CPAS, Renew and Church Society.
Beyond the parish, I am a CPAS Patronage Trustee, Vice-Chair of the Chelmsford Diocesan Evangelical Network, a member of Chelmsford Diocesan Synod, and a member of the Standing Commission on the House of Bishops’ Declaration and Five Guiding Principles.
Council of Reference, CPAS
After university and before ordination I worked in marketing/sales, was a regional children’s and youth worker for the Church Pastoral Aid Society (CPAS) and led church based evangelistic missions in the UK.
Since my ordination 27 years ago, I have served in Indonesia for 4 years, in Southsea for 16 years, for CPAS for 6 years, and now in the Upper Wylye Valley for 9 months.
At CPAS, I led the Patronage Team with responsibility for 700 churches of every description in every English diocese.

From 2006 until 2022 I was General Director of CPAS and since then I have worked for CEEC (the Church of England Evangelical Council).

Writing: Whilst at Christ Church, Ore, I produced several series of Home Group notes for the Church, one of which I adapted for publication by CPAS in their “Project” series.
Alongside parish ministry, I have served at different times as Area Dean, Training Incumbent, member of Bishops’ Council, Chair of the House of Clergy in the Diocese of Bath and Wells, Trustee of Trinity College Bristol, and member of CPAS’s Council of Reference.

Through my later teens and twenties, I helped in youth work, supported student mission in the university Christian Union and led and then became overall leader on a CPAS Venture - serving alongside study and work.
I have served as a Bishop’s Advisor for National Discernment Panels, assistant DDO, chair of the Mission Apprentice scheme, a member of the Malawian Task Group (including leading clergy training in Lake Diocese in Malawi), and as a leadership specialist with CPAS.
I was on the Clergy Conduct Measure Revision Committee and have also been a member of a committee of Archbishop’s Council - the Advisory Group for the Terms and Wellbeing of Ministers, which works to ensure that our clergy are well cared for and can thrive in parish ministry. ● I am also Vice Chair of our Vacancy in See Committee and have been elected to the Crown Nominations Commission to help us find the 100th Bishop of Lichfield in the coming months. ● My experience of being a trustee of CPAS and Church Society helps inform my governance work in the wider church, together with service as a governor at our church school for over ten years, and on CEEC and Lichfield Diocesan Evangelical Fellowship. ● I’m married to Neil, a vicar, and we have three young adult children, and a large lurcher.
