The decisions made in this next quinquennium - be it stewarding our resources and finances well, ensuring greater clergy welfare and growing an increased number of ordinands, improving our safeguarding, or simplifying our structures - will have significant impact on the future of our beloved Church of England, as we seek to turn the tide and see our churches full of life and hope for all.

Securely reversing these trends, and promoting clergy welfare, should be a priority for the new Synod.
Perhaps if we invested in Solar Panels, Heat pumps and EV points for most vicarages, we could improve clergy welfare and hit our net-zero targets.

Clergy welfare and wellbeing
I remain open to that engagement, while my particular focus in standing for Synod is clergy welfare and the support of parish ministry.
I will support national initiatives that promote clergy welfare, provide proper pastoral care, and ensure fair, transparent processes across the church.
As part of synod, I haven’t been a prolific speech maker but I have served for the last quinquennium on the Standing Committee for the House of Clergy and more recently as a member of the Diocese Commission both of which have given me a chance to advocate for the parishes and clergy of Canterbury Diocese particularly in the areas of clergy welfare and conduct.
Growing clergy wellbeing: As an elected member of the Standing Committee for the House of Clergy at General Synod I have been involved in work around clergy welfare.
Whether the debate is about childhood poverty, the care system, pensions, safeguarding, AI, neurodiversity, accepted forms of worship, racial inequality, the energy crisis, clergy welfare, global warming, human sexuality and “equal marriage”, or global issues, those working daily at the “chalk-face” must have a place in the discussion and their voices heard.
