Key words and phrases

Coming from a charismatic evangelical background my formation for priesthood at the College of the Resurrection was something of a steep learning curve but I found within the Anglo-Catholic tradition a language for my love of worship and a deep tradition of social action rooted in theological integrity from which I continue to draw.

I grew up in my local middle-of-the-road Anglican church where I now serve most months, but my faith was nurtured through the Roman Catholic chaplaincy at university and later kindled at a charismatic evangelical Methodist church.

Today, while I prefer more formal and sacramental worship, I treasure the friendships made through the New Wine network and would describe myself, only half- jokingly, as a committed anglo-catholic charismatic evangelical.

I am 28 and have worshipped in the Church of England all my life, first in an Anglo-Catholic parish in Rutland and, for the past fourteen years, in a charismatic evangelical church in Kettering.

Churchmanship-wise, I would describe myself as a Charismatic Evangelical, but I certainly don’t think I have all the answers.

If labels must be attached, I’d say I’m Charismatic Evangelical, but I’m Charismatic Evangelical at BCP as much as I am elsewhere.

These two churches provided the experience of a wonderful breadth of Anglican worship, from traditional to charismatic evangelical styles, a perfect preparation for my curacy here in North Devon.

I was raised in Huddersfield as a Methodist, but came to the Church of England through worshipping for six years (including my gap year) at a charismatic evangelical church in Coventry.

On a personal note, I have a broad spiritualty using Ignatius’s Spiritual exercises as a sermon series this year, and minster in a church with a Eucharistic tradition, whilst integrating my charismatic evangelical formation.

I began as a lay worker in a large charismatic evangelical church, before serving as a curate in a rural context, as a school chaplain, and later as an Associate Priest in a liberal Anglo-Catholic parish.

Although I am most at home in a charismatic evangelical style of worship I meet God in all styles, and it has been a joy to spend more time in choral BCP worship as part of this relationship.

I’ve experienced two placements in the Anglo Catholic tradition (one alongside the Canon Precentor at Leicester Cathedral as an ordinand) and moved from a Charismatic Evangelical curacy to an incumbency of central tradition.

I much prefer not to use labels but if pressed would describe myself as an open inclusive charismatic evangelical with a deep heart connection with the eastern orthodox church!

Bridging Disagreement: I come from a charismatic evangelical tradition, and my faith is rooted in Scripture and attentive to the Holy Spirit.

e!|am a strong believer that there is beauty in the breadth of the Church, having been nurtured within the charismatic evangelical tradition before falling in love with the unfolding drama of salvation found within the Mass.

I’m also aware that engagement with General Synod by the​ ​charismatic evangelical tradition of the church - of which I’m a part - can be sparse.

As a passionate, “orthodox” charismatic evangelical, voting for me ensures a true breadth of representation across our diocesan landscape, giving voice to a vital theological tradition within Worcester.

A Church that Sustains Parish and Innovation: My own spirituality has been shaped by charismatic evangelical and liberal catholic traditions, as well as experience of other denominations.

I was raised in a Christian family in a large Anglican church in the charismatic evangelical tradition and am thankful for an upbringing that surrounded me with Christian friends and family that spanned all generations, classes, and backgrounds.

In my early teens I had some experience in a more central, open church tradition, before joining a lively charismatic evangelical church.

I am equally comfortable in a charismatic evangelical service as I am at high mass.
