The ‘Vicar’s wife’ As a clergy spouse, I regularly host welcome meals and congregational meals at the vicarage, attend civic events, serve our community at Christmas and Easter events, visit parishioners, and meet one-to-one with women in the congregation for prayer and pastoral support.

Summer Fetes held in vicarage gardens was a joy, as they were opened to the whole community in the parish.
In growing up in an active parish and an open vicarage, I saw how it brought the community together; I met people from all walks of life and it prepared me for when I became a qualified nurse.
The vicarage was always an ‘ open house’, it was available and welcoming when anyone needed something, including wishing to have their child baptised, picking up banns certificates and requiring pastoral needs.

Winchester’s Diocesan Stipendiary Fund (DSF) worth £23m, has also flatlined the last 5 years8, income at 5% would have provided another 17 vicars for free, or more vicarage upgrades.
Our benefice had to buy our new vicar’s PC, washing machine etc, despite the vicarage being sold for £1m!!
