I have seen this same desire for a solid grounding in experience of those I have taught in residential and non-residential TEIs, matched by the energy and enthusiasm of tutors and staff, despite a backdrop of a lack of resources inhibiting proper formation and a general sense of uncertainty for the University-TEI sector; a strong voice for University-TEIs is needed now more than ever as the review of theological education takes place.
There are conversations taking place now about theological education and formation that will impact the resourcing of local ministry and mission for decades to come, to which I would bring direct expertise as a TEI Principal with substantial parish experience.
I already bring these skills to the TEI Principals’ Steering Group, and to the engagement that the Principals as a group have with the National Church, it would be a privilege to use them on Synod.
Throughout the quinquennium, I’ve been actively liaising with TEI staff, stakeholders and students, as we have worked through a major review of the sector.
I believe that God loves and welcomes us all and being passionate about inclusion, I have taught classes on it at my TEI.
I have taught at a TEI, mentored ordinands and understand the importance of theological and spiritual formation.
With my past experience in TEI admissions, I am all too aware of the complexities in discernment and ordination training pathways, which create barriers to individuals with a genuine call to ministry, especially those from working-class, non-white or neurodiverse backgrounds.
Since 2018 I have served on the Council of a Theological Education Institution (TEI), which trains ordinands offers courses and qualifications in theology and pastoral ministry for students of all ages and stages.
• TEI representative on the Quality in Formation Panel 2020-2026.
• As a TEI representative in the last quinquennium, I spoke regularly at Synod to promote our work, to
Board and have good relationships with the Board, the TEI reviewers, and national MDT staff.
Vocations & leadership: I am a sponsoring bishop our Diocese and served in senior leadership in a TEI.
I have a good understanding of both the realities of ministry and the challenges facing the TEI sector.
