Whilst secularism and social divide threaten the influence of the Church on society, we must seek to strengthen and unite all its constituent parts as instruments of mission.
After the dry years when secularism and the New Atheism seemed unassailable, there is a new openness to spiritual issues, especially among younger generations, and the national church statistics report five years of steady growth.
Above all we must seek to bring Anglicans together unafraid to face outward to confront the rampant secularism of much of modern social discourse and present a Christian message that renews and transforms the lives of those who hear it.
We live in a time of increasing secularism and we need to find new and effective ways of presenting our Christian Faith to this land.
Secularism dominates society, and the Church has lost her way. (I am obviously generalising, and I don’t intend to offend, but space here is limited!) I am willing to be courageous and encourage change in how we ‘do church’, and to encourage fresh ways to demonstrate and proclaim the good news of Jesus.
