middle of the road
Having been a Training Incumbent for self- described liberal-catholic, middle-of-the-road, and evangelical curates, I appreciate that these are not simply “camps” or “tribes.” We are family members together in the household of God – the communion of saints in which we profess our belief, and whom I am honoured to serve.
I grew up in my local middle-of-the-road Anglican church where I now serve most months, but my faith was nurtured through the Roman Catholic chaplaincy at university and later kindled at a charismatic evangelical Methodist church.

My childhood church, which was very middle of the road in terms of churchmanship, taught me the faith that I love and provided me with a grounding which has steadied me ever since.
Through my childhood and teenage years I worshipped ina small Church in Wales parish, a charismatic Baptist church, a middle-of-the-road Methodist church and all sorts of others.
It is shared by Evangelicals, Anglo-Catholics, the High Church, the Middle of the Road, and anyone who values the system gifted to us in its wonderful diversity of expressions.
That may still be true, but the desire to serve the Church of England has been built into me since growing up with a dad who was Vicar of a middle of the road village parish.
The CoE and the parish belong to us all - Evangelical, Anglo-Catholic, High Church, middle-of-the-road and everything in between.
It’s one which is shared by Evangelicals, Anglo-Catholics, the High Church, the Middle of the Road… anyone, really, who values the system which has been passed on to us in trust, in its wonderful diversity of expressions.
Most of the time they have described themselves as ‘middle of the road’.
With regard to where I stand in the C of E, like most rural parishes, my own parish is ‘middle of the road’.
I am a lifelong Anglican and love the breadth of the Church of England, having worshipped in middle-of-the-road, Evangelical, and Anglo-Catholic parishes.
I then had a 3-year stint as ordinand at St. Mary’s, Hanwell, a “middle-of-the road” church, while studying Theology, Ministry and Mission at St. Mellitus College, where I enjoyed being Senior Student.
I describe myself as middle of the road, neither evangelical nor high church but ecumenical and liberal.
Having been raised in a very conservative evangelical free church, I would now describe myself as somewhere fairly middle of the road.
