In Athens he meets regularly with the orthodox Archbishop of Athens and fellowship with RC, Orthodox, Armenian and Swedish Lutheran Christians in Athens and beyond.
I was born in south-western Finland and baptised and confirmed in the Finnish Lutheran Church, which has been in full communion with the Church of England since the Porvoo Common Statement of 1992.
One side of my family are Roman Catholic (on my father’s side) and the other side are Lutheran (on my mother’s side), and I was baptised in a Lutheran church; as a teenager, I was confirmed as a Roman Catholic.
Baptised and confirmed a Lutheran, I spent my early adulthood among independent evangelicals.
Both in academia and in the church, I have worked with Christians from many different traditions, including those from Methodist, Baptist, Eastern Orthodox, Catholic and Lutheran churches.
Having served across Lutheran and Anglican contexts and across Europe, I can bring to Synod a practical understanding of ecumenism: friendship, shared mission, theological conversation and the patient work of building trust across boundaries.
I was brought up in the Finnish Lutheran Church but ordained in the Church of England and have served all my time in ministry in the Diocese in Europe.
I have been a member of the international Anglican-Lutheran Society for over ten years, having learned about Lutheran Christianity as a student of German.
