I’m so grateful to God for Matthew’s safe arrival, and more aware than ever of the need to build a strong church for the future – so my grandson and his generation can hear and live the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Gospel — The world-changing good news of Jesus Christ At the heart of my life, work and ministry is the firm belief that Jesus Christ is good news for today’s world.
We must look at how we all, as the body of Christ, carry out the mission of the Church and proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom to the people of today.
The commands to love both God and neighbour are non-negotiable, and those efforts start close to home for each of us – with our families, those we live next door to, or work alongside – seeking to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus with them, supported by our own church community.
Paramount though, is our commission to mission as exemplified in the Five Marks of Mission, where we show Christ’s love to others in service, in combatting injustice, in caring for our world and in the proclamation of his good news and the nurture of those who have come to faith.
With courage, faith, and imagination, we can help the Church flourish and share the transforming good news of Jesus Christ.

We have ceased to seem like the bearers of Good News to far too many people who had hoped for better.
I am a committed Christian, shaped by the historic, apostolic faith at the heart of Anglicanism, and convinced that the gospel of Jesus Christ is good news for every person in our nation.
I long to see a united Church that, in every parish in the nation, is God’s voice for proclaiming, by word and deed, the Good News of Jesus Christ and the new life He offers to all.
I believe the Church of England, with its 12,500 parishes, is uniquely placed to meet this widespread spiritual hunger by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ afresh throughout the nation.
This commitment is rooted in the Church of England’s Five Marks of Mission: to proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom; to teach, baptise and nurture new believers; to respond to human need by loving service; to transform unjust structures, challenge violence and pursue peace and reconciliation; and to safeguard the integrity of creation.
Jesus said, “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.” I am confident that the Lord is able to bless the Church of England and to use us, together with other churches, to reach our nation afresh with the good news of Jesus.
I long to see churches in every context reaching people with the good news of Jesus and making disciples.
At the same time, I believe the gospel of Jesus is good news for every person, and I long for our churches to be places of genuine welcome, where all are treated with love and with the dignity that belongs to those made in the image of God.

The good news is that we saved the Clergy Conduct Measure 2025 – because we separated Safeguarding and made it our number 1 priority saying we would pay whatever it costs in compensation to the many victims through the Church Commissioners.

The Church needs structures that safeguard people, uphold high standards and ensure accountability precisely so that our energy can be directed towards what God has called us to do: worshipping Christ, making disciples, serving our communities and sharing the good news of God’s love.
Throughout this time I have sought to serve God faithfully and to support and encourage initiatives and decisions that will help our churches to thrive, to be places that share the good news of Jesus, and where everyone is welcome, included and loved.

Since retiring, I have been able to devote more time to church life, gospel work, and sharing the Word of God through Good News for Everyone.

Christ brought good news to the poor and dispossessed and we must do likewise.
That doesn't mean chasing cultural trends, but it does mean asking how we communicate the good news with clarity, finding authentic ways to invite them into faith, and creating a space where they feel welcome and can belong.

Perhaps the best modern translation would be “they were anxious and depressed and lonely, like sheep who have separated as a result of losing touch with the shepherd.” This accurately describes so many young people growing up in England who have never had the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus.

A positive vision for the future of the Church The good news is that with the right action, parish churches can be saved and helped to thrive and grow and do the vital work of spreading God’s word and serving our wider community.
I am keen to play a part in ensuring a more positive good news message is heard from the Church of England in our nation, both in reality, and how it is perceived in wider society.

The Church has something profound to offer: the life-changing good news of Jesus Christ.
We need to take action to enable today’s children and young people to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus, to grow deep roots of faith grounded in Scripture and church community, and to build up leaders who can shepherd the next generation.
The necessity of adhering to every policy (however well-intended it may be) hampers resources from being fully deployed towards the church’s vocation of “proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ afresh in each generation”.
I believe we should be investing in our parish system making it more sustainable in areas where resources are stretched to ensure that in all corners of our nation the good news of Jesus can be proclaimed and the church can be guided by God to join in with the work He is already doing.
Mission - When it comes to sharing the good news of Jesus in our nation, we need to move from a posture of retreat to one of confident, hopeful engagement, trusting in the power of the gospel and the transformation Jesus brings to individuals and wider society.

In all the motions, meetings, and ideas discussed at Synod, one of the questions I want to always be asking is How will this lead to more people hearing the good news of the love of God, for them, that can bring them into life in all its fullness?
Sometimes we encounter people who think that the gospel is actually bad news, not good news of life in all its fullness.
Bringing the good news afresh to this generation to inspire people and bring them in to know Jesus, against backdrop of so many other messages is hard.
The good news is that “what” the whole Church wants is to survive and thrive: my “CV” overleaf summarises my background and ability to contribute to identifying and implementing the “how” to achieve that successfully.

A Church that is confident in the Gospel At the heart of everything we do must proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to our needy world.
My fear is that our world rarely hears us speak about good news or rarely hears us providing a prophetic voice for the needs of the poor and marginalised.
By shifting the focus to where we agree, rather than our divisions, we can build unity and shared confidence in proclaiming the Good News for all in the complexity of 21st century life.
I am committed to churches becoming all God calls them to be as they seek to share the good news and follow Jesus together.
I believe we are in a missionary context, with tremendous opportunities to share the Good News of Jesus.
Confidence in the Good News of Jesus: Without giving you a sermon, I believe we sometimes appear to have lost confidence in, and have watered down, the gospel; we appear to have lost our boldness to witness Jesus in our communities.
Secularism dominates society, and the Church has lost her way. (I am obviously generalising, and I don’t intend to offend, but space here is limited!) I am willing to be courageous and encourage change in how we ‘do church’, and to encourage fresh ways to demonstrate and proclaim the good news of Jesus.
We live in a time of great spiritual hunger with the younger generations rejecting the secular humanism of their parents and so there is a great opportunity for us as a church to proclaim the message of the good news of Jesus, being confident that this good news answers the most profound searching and satisfies our deepest desires.
the Good News should be at the heart of and the motivation for all that we do and each one of us in our various settings and parishes are given every opportunity and resource to witness to this great good news and point people to Jesus.

Being involved in many church evangelistic ministries enables me to understand how any Synod proposals can enable the sharing of the good news with others.

Priorifies for the Church Making the good news of Jesus known is of paramount importance and I believe this is brilliantly achieved through the parish church.
Our first calling is not simply to preserve an institution but to proclaim the good news entrusted to us.

Jesus Christ: Our nation desperately needs the good news of Jesus, and we are called to be the ones who share it.
I am also greatly encouraged by the increasing number of stories of the good news of Jesus transforming lives across the diverse churches of our Diocese and beyond.
If elected, I will contribute to coming conversations on this topic and work to see these and other Church structures refined and improved at all levels to see the Church of England better able to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom in every parish and context.
I am confident that the Lord wants to bless the Church of England, and to use us – together with all the other churches – to reach our nation once again with the good news of Jesus.
By that point I was pretty sure Christ had claimed me already, but that night I felt the power of the good news in a different way that needed a response.
Above all, I want to contribute to a Synod that focuses and models bringing the good news of Jesus to the United Kingdom and the world, through our decisions and our conduct.

Good News of Jesus
My favourite verse in Scripture is John 10:10 when Jesus declares, ‘I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” As Christians, I truly believe we have good news to share with the world around us.
I would seek to serve the Church to have the fullness that God has called it to be and in turn the most effective vehicle for the sharing of the Good News of Jesus.
Every person, precious and worthy in the sight of God, should have the opportunity to hear the wonderful gospel of good news safely and without fear, and I will do what I can to ensure this.
I heard the good news about Jesus and put my faith in Him.
Isaiah’s words speak strongly to me: “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me… he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted…” I am happiest when supporting others: being a voice for the unheard, feeding hungry families, supporting the homeless, walking alongside the bereaved, visiting the sick and welcoming refugees.
I want to see parishes resourced to share that good news faithfully, relationally and creatively.
I would love to be part of a General Synod that is energetic about Good News of Jesus and what that looks like to the lost, the poor, the displaced, the broken and the hopeless.
I believe the Gospel remains good news for every community, every generation and every person.
The Gospel is still good news.Jesus is still Lord.People still need Christ.Local churches can still grow.
I want General Synod to make the national machinery work so that local churches can bring the good news of Jesus to every person in their parishes.
If I am re-elected to represent Lincoln Diocese, I will do my best to work for the unity and future growth of the Church of England as we seek together to do the work of sharing the good news of God’s love in Christ.
Our ultimate purpose is to share the good news of Jesus Christ and to help people encounter God's love.
With its presence in every community in the country, and on the national stage, it has the potential to be used by God to transform our society, by communicating the good news of new life in Jesus Christ, and making this relevant to everyone.

The Church of England's calling is to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ afresh in each generation to the people of England and I am fully supportive of the national vision for the Church to become a Church that is centred on Jesus Christ and shaped by Jesus Christ through the five marks of mission.

I am also passionate about how we spread the good news and putting the words of the bible in everyday language, so that those words can be understood by all.

The C o E, is in a special position to offer a Christian Peace presence in every International community, and in Europe we bring the Good News of Jesus to varied denominations, cultures, War conflict areas & Orthodox Churches.
They are a source of discouragement and doubt for us in the Church, dragging us away from the “love, joy and celebration of our common humanity” that the gospel calls us to; they cast a shadow over our witness to Christ, the good news of salvation and redemption that we long to embody and declare”.

I think that this can be best done by the Church of England holding to the historic teachings of the church which I think the Bible clearly teaches, in everything we do as a denomination for the flourishing and good of the nation that desperately needs the good news of Jesus.
