Modelling the Church and its governance on the person and example of Jesus Christ, ready to fulfil its calling to minister to and evangelise our communities.
My experience working on Diocesan staff has led me to conclude that the Church of England is overly complex in many ways, and needs to become more relevant, intentional and flexible in order to re-evangelise the nation, holding to the received teaching of the Church of England.
I want Synod to give local churches the freedom, confidence and resources to evangelise, make disciples and serve their communities, rather than burdening clergy with unnecessary administration.
We need to make better use of what we have been given, and value our parishes, clergy, and laity, so that our Church can get back on to the mission field and evangelise our nation.
If the church fails to evangelise for even a single generation, it will cease to exist.
I want to see our parishes strengthened and encouraged, with clergy and lay leaders equipped to serve effectively, evangelise confidently and develop new expressions of ministry where appropriate.
So my intention on Synod would be to provide a voice for local clergy in their mission and need as they minister, evangelise and care for their people.
Why I’d like your vote I love the Church of England: its reformed and catholic heritage; its Scriptural, liturgical and sacramental worship; its commitment to pastor and evangelise through the parish system; and its place within the worldwide Anglican Communion.
As a sociologist and Modern Church Trustee, I will use my deep understanding of both the big picture and people's everyday lives to think strategically as Synod makes decisions about how we, as a Church, best witness, evangelise and minister in contemporary society.
